Explore the Sky: Top Aviation Videos You Shouldn’t Miss

While we dedicate most of our time to delivering the latest in aviation news and updates through our website and Twitter, we’ve also curated a collection of captivating aviation videos on our YouTube channel that we believe you shouldn’t overlook. Our YouTube channel offers a visual journey through aviation, featuring stunning window seat views, airport highlights, and even short video trip reports.

If you’re an #AvGeek and a fan of aviation videos, you’ll undoubtedly find something to satisfy your passion here. We’ve ventured into creating video trip reports on a variety of flights, including experiences with JetBlue Mint and Finnair’s long-haul business class. Additionally, our channel includes on-scene coverage of significant airport infrastructure highlights, such as the spectacular moment when Sea-Tac’s over-taxiway skywalk was hoisted into place.

To provide you with a taste of the aviation delights our YouTube channel has to offer, I’ve handpicked three of my personal favorite takeoff videos from flights that I’ve undertaken for our website. This was no easy task as there were plenty of strong contenders vying for a spot in the top three. You’ll also get a glimpse of the video that didn’t quite make it to the top but is still worth watching.

So, let’s get to it. If you’re passionate about aviation videos, you’re in for a treat!

Third Place – Sunny Summer at Miami International Airport

This delightful video showcases a recent flight, marking my first experience on the 737 MAX. The flight took off to the east over downtown/midtown and South Beach, offering picturesque waterfront views. What makes this video even more special is the backdrop of a lightly loaded 747 freighter gracefully taking off as we taxied to the active runway. You’ll also get a glimpse of the extensive operation of American Airlines at Miami International Airport and a fly-by of Fort Lauderdale Airport.

Although my experience on American’s 737 MAX was a bit of a mixed bag, you can read the full story on our website. The one thing I had no complaints about was the incredible views this flight offered.

Second Place – A Dreamliner Takeoff With a Rainbow Off the Wing

This video captures the inaugural flight of United’s 787-10 Dreamliner from San Francisco to Newark. The day started with pouring rain, but just before we pushed back, the sky miraculously cleared up, revealing a magnificent rainbow right off the right wingtip as we took off. The sight of the 787-10 wing reaching out over the bay toward the rainbow was a truly once-in-a-lifetime #AvGeek moment. This video also offers a peek inside the United Polaris cabin and the pre-flight festivities.

During this flight, I had the privilege of experiencing United Polaris on a domestic route. You can read all about the full flight experience on our website, which was particularly memorable as the inaugural flight took place on Valentine’s Day.

So what could possibly top this experience? Well, it turns out…

First Place – All Hail the Queen

Except for the tail cams, how can you get a forward-facing view from a jetliner? There are two options. One, invest years in becoming an airline pilot. Or two, sit in one of the very front seats on a Boeing 747. Back in 2017, I opted for the latter when I booked seat 1A on a United 747-400 flight from London to San Francisco. It was a trip that concluded my around-the-world journey, and it doesn’t get any better than that.

Sitting in seat 1A, the fuselage wall had already started curving toward the nose. As a result, instead of the usual side view from most plane windows, the view was partially forward-facing. While the video during the takeoff roll may be a bit shaky due to my relative inexperience with in-flight videography, you’ll soon realize why this video holds a special place in my heart.
