Thai AirAsia X is set to bolster its presence down under with the launch of new services connecting Bangkok with Melbourne and Sydney. Commencing on December 1st and 2nd, 2022, these routes aim to enhance travel options and strengthen the bond between Thailand and Australia. This article explores the details of this expansion and the potential impact on travelers.

New Routes and Flight Schedule

Thai AirAsia X has planned four weekly flights departing from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport to Sydney Airport. These flights are scheduled for Mondays, Tuesdays, Fridays, and Saturdays. Additionally, travelers can choose from three weekly flights connecting Bangkok to Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine) every Wednesday, Thursday, and Sunday.

Budget-Friendly Return Flights

For the return journey from Australia to Thailand, passengers will be pleased to discover that prices start at just A$299. This attractive fare allows for affordable travel options, promoting exploration between the two nations.

Premium Flatbed Options

Travelers seeking a more luxurious experience can also opt for premium flatbed seats. These premium seats are available for both routes, with prices starting at A$1,199. The inclusion of this premium offering ensures that Thai AirAsia X caters to a diverse range of passengers, from budget-conscious travelers to those looking for a touch of luxury.

Aircraft and Seating Arrangement

Thai AirAsia X will operate these new routes using Airbus A330 aircraft. This spacious aircraft features 12 business-class reclining seats and 365 economy seats. Additionally, for passengers seeking a quieter journey, the airline offers a designated quiet zone from rows 7 to 14. This seating arrangement aims to accommodate various passenger preferences, whether it’s privacy, comfort, or relaxation.

Strong Ties Between Thailand and Australia

Mr. Tassapon Bijleveld, Acting Chief Executive Officer of Thai AirAsia X, highlights the enduring bond between Thailand and Australia, which spans over seven decades. Australia holds a special place for Thai students, ranking among the top three educational destinations. Simultaneously, it remains a prominent travel destination for Thai tourists.

Expanding Connections

Mr. Bijleveld expressed Thai AirAsia X’s enthusiasm about introducing Sydney and Melbourne as key destinations in Australia. The airline’s commitment to expanding its network is evident, reflecting the popularity of these routes among travelers.

Promising Future Prospects

As Thailand and Australia continue to strengthen their ties, it is plausible that Thai AirAsia X might expand its presence in the Australian market. Additional destinations, such as Perth, have already piqued the airline’s interest, and further expansions may be on the horizon.

Australia as a Key Market

Australia maintains its position as a crucial market for the AirAsia brand. This expansion by Thai AirAsia X complements the recent announcement by Malaysia-based AirAsia X, introducing new direct services from Kuala Lumpur to Sydney and extending connections to Perth, Melbourne, and Auckland via Sydney.

The introduction of Thai AirAsia X’s new routes to Melbourne and Sydney from Bangkok is a significant development that enhances travel options between Thailand and Australia. With competitive fares and premium seating choices, the airline is poised to attract a diverse range of travelers. As the airline explores future expansion opportunities in Australia, it is evident that these routes are just the beginning of an exciting journey.
